On Wednesday October 7th at 7pm , Alan Hanna’s Bookshop, Rathmines will find itself hosting the one man show Strolling Through Ulysses. Performed by Robert Gogan, this promises to be a funny, entertaining guide through James Joyce’s Ulysses.
The show is scattered with extracts from one of Joyce’s most famous novels and brings the characters from the book to life with great enthusiasm and humour. For those who may be new to Joyce and those who are not there’s something for everyone. Taking place over 75 minutes, this is a hugely entertaining and inspiring show that will make you want to reach for your Joyce books all over again!

And if you haven’t been to Alan Hanna’s Bookshop yet, then you’re in for a lovely treat there too. Situated at the back of the shop is a cosy cafe named Bark Coffee (after their shop dog Molly) which serves some of the best coffee in Rathmines if not all of Dublin! You could spend hours perusing through their great selection of books and snuggle up on one of the armchairs to have a browse. You can find some great treasures in this shop as they seem to have a better selection then most. Make sure to keep an eye on Alan Hanna’s Facebook page as they put on great events throughout the year.
Robert has been touring with this show through several bookshops in Ireland and if the reviews are anything to go by then this is definitely one not to be missed.
Tickets are €10 and can be bought in store at Alan Hanna’s. Space is limited and tickets are selling fast so make sure to snag one before they’re all gone!
And last but not at all least, please feel free (and encouraged) to dress in your favourite Bloomsday outfits for the show!
Joyce famously declared about Ulysses: “There is not one serious line in it.” Strolling Through Ulysses certainly proves that!
